NANOULAK

Choreographic and musical duet

Le Porte-Voix’s next creation will celebrate creativity, adaptability, transformation and learning. Through this choreographic and musical duet, we question our embodied human condition, our relationship with the body, and the unfailing place of art in our history… Our inspiration comes from the nanoulak, the name given by the Inuit to the half-breed polar bear born from the meeting of a polar bear mother and a grizzly father. We see it as a symbol of the world to come, and of the creativity needed to face tomorrow’s world. We won’t be seeing any bears, but two beings, in turn dancers, performers, musicians… inventing their environment, transforming it, building and deconstructing, hybridizing and playing. The nanoulak is the embodiment of the cross-fertilisation of worlds that were never meant to meet. The set design and sound creation will evoke this unlikely encounter between ice and wood. The recorded music will weave with the sounds produced on stage, creating a special atmosphere punctuated by surprising, strange and offbeat events. Somewhere between an igloo and a cave, the scenography will evoke a soft, enveloping interior that is ideal for early childhood learning.

Nanoulak will be aimed at children in the transition between infancy and childhood, at the time when they are first learning, the privileged age of the child artist. In late spring 2026, MIC-MAC, a site-specific form for children aged 6 months and over, will be created for use in early childhood centres and media libraries.
